We were a large family group of 15 plus 2 babies staying at the end of June into July The house absorbed us easily. The pool was really great and indispensable as we were in a heat wave. There is no air conditioning but the interiors were cool. The setting is just sensational - so tranquil with the sounds of birds, sheep bells and the views of the ski slopes and forests surrounding the plain. Beautiful wildflowers, so many different butterflies. Very few people! We walked across the newly mown fields to the community garden which was delightful to explore. We recommend lake swimming at Genin and Nantua and walking the caves at Cerdon. We made some beautiful hikes around the house itself - when it was cool enough. There’s a pretty good wee shop in Hortonne but not always open. We bought really good meat from a Saturday farm shop in Hortonne. Otherwise we visited bigger supermarchés on the way back from day trips. This was an idyllic holiday for us and truly memorable.
